What does foxtrot, uniform, charlie, kilo mean?

1. DUH !!
2. The words don't 'mean' anything (other than their obvious meanings). They form the phonetic alphabet, a way of sounding out words/names/directions etc without any confusion or mishearing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet So 'sad' for example would be 'sierra, alpha, delta'.
